The End of Cisco Security MARS
|When Cisco acquired Protego in December 2004 we all thought that Cisco has finally located its security and compliance management platform which can be integrated with all its product lines.
The competition in this market was very high and other players like Symantec, RSA Security, and ArcSight were operating in this business for quite a long time.
Through 2005 and 2006, Cisco aggressively pushed the product into the market. I know many companies in Bulgaria, especially in the financial sector, that are already using Cisco Security Monitoring, Analysis, and Response System (Cisco Security MARS). So, Cisco somehow succeeded in creating a base and continued developing the enhancements.
But MARS was more expensive than the competitive offerings. In the meantime, to make use of this disadvantage, other competitors like Juniper, Enterasys, and Nortel established partnership with Q1 Labs. When we add other enhancements in log management products like LogLogic, Cisco MARS lost all its advantage.
Finally on 3rd of December Cisco announced End of Support and End Of Sales dates for its MARS products. It seems we all need to look for an alternative solution and Cisco have some suggestions on their web site : http://www.cisco.com/en/US/solutions/ns340/ns414/ns742/ns744/ns1090/
